Well, upright pieces are immediately recast because they have no field
presence. Since they don't point in any direction, they have no aura to
spread to other pieces. An upright piece would pretty much be a sitting duck
with no capturing potential, so there is little benefit to deliberately
pointing a piece up. I suppose it could be rotated on a later turn, but then
what's the point of putting it upright in the first place? This isn't a
consideration for most players, but having a game that is solid-friendly is
a bonus. Adding the stackability dimension may make for an interesting game,
but a solid-friendly game might attract some pieceniks. I'll pass your
suggestions on to Steve to see what he thinks.
