Yes because if you call Master you deny your fellow students the
option of choosing whether to participate in a Mondo, thus there are
still tactical advantages to be gained (or lost) in the choice.

And it also adds interesting tactics like trying to trick the other
students into losing stones and then (for example) not choosing to
make a guess yourself.

Definitely interesting.  More mind games, more cut-throat.  It might
drastically change the feel of the game from nigh-cooperative to being
much more competitive, which would change its appeal for some people.
