The glue makes the paper tough enough to take some wear and tear.  I thought the paper would pull away at the slightest abrasion, but no.  If you REALLY pick at it, you can get the papper to pull off, but I was able to scrape the excess glue off with my fingernail without any adverse effect.

The biggest problem is the additional friction the paper adds.  They're fine for Treehouse or as "chips" for Martian Hold'em, but they're a little too frictiony for IceTowers.  Also, the large and medium in a nest don't quite touch the table.
