So it's basically a missing link, but nothing more
(i.e. pair -> triplet; triplet -> 4ofk; flush/straight/strfl finisher;
2pr -> full house)... but nobody's going to jump from a pair to a
4ofk if their pair happened to be the wild card.
So basically everyone can count on one wild and therefore only need a
"close enough" hand, but they have to be luckier than Thom in order
to cash in. Sounds fun to me -- I used to play 7card no peek (on
dealer's choice nights) where a turned 7 kills your hand. It didn't
pick on the same guy every time though.
