I actually have a lot of fun drawing directly on the cards and trying  
to get my icons "right" multiple times.

I think it could be a cool class project to work in teams. You could  
have students design their custom keepers and suggested goals, and  
one student is responsible for a particular keeper's artwork (kids  
tend to focus/obsess on drawing one particular icon over and over  
again, so this is actually a good project for that). Or, think of the  
fun if the class decides on a set of keepers and goals, and each time  
the goal comes up, the icon was drawn by someone else. You would get  
everyone's different interpretations of "dog" or "car" or whatever  
other keepers you decide on.
