You're right... I'd love to go to this. However, the $350 fee makes it
impossible.
There's the book festival in DC every year, at the Library of Congress:

I think I mentioned, last year, the Council for Exceptional Children
conference. The CEC is the largest professional (non-union)
organization for special education in the country, and draws a number of
special education professionals yearly. They have a huge vendor area,
and lots of different sessions. I typically submit presentations for
acceptance, but I've only been accepted (and then my school wouldn't
allow me to present) once. In 2011, the conference will be in Maryland
again (which in the CEC State Unit I'm involved with---we'll be doing a
lot of the conference planning).
